Antony Walton

Tony is an internationally recognised interventional cardiologist with national leadership in structural heart disease, transcatheter valve therapies, and renal denervation. He is Deputy Director of Cardiology and Head of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at Alfred Health, and Director of Structural Heart Intervention at Epworth HealthCare.

He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Melbourne (MBBS, 1984), obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Cardiology in 1992, and undertook an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center (1993–1995). He holds a current appointment as Professor of Medicine at Monash University and is a Senior Clinical Associate at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.

Tony pioneered the TAVI programme in Australia from 2008 and has performed more than 1,000 transcatheter heart valve procedures. He is Chief Investigator of the Alfred–Cabrini–Epworth (ACE) TAVI Registry, leads the largest structural heart research collaboration in the country, and has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in journals including JAMA Cardiology, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and the European Heart Journal.

He is Principal Investigator on more than 15 active international clinical trials and is a regular invited faculty member at TCT (USA) and EuroPCR (Paris).
