Coronary Stent Implantation

If a PCI has not been successful in improving blood flow, a stent may be implanted. This procedure is performed at Epworth Hospital with a similar preparation to an angiography and angioplasty. A stent is a small stainless steel mesh tube which is guided to the blocked or narrowed coronary artery in order to realign the artery. The artery wall heals around the stent which remains in place to reinforce the artery wall.
